Lost in the Ozzy Desert

Ok, where's my luggage?

?????? Hmmmnnn.........

I went to all that trouble of waking up at 5am so I could catch the taxi and get on the plane in time, the least they could have done is put my friggin bag on the plane.

Turns out the plane was overloaded, so they bumped off a few bags. They will hopefully arrive in about 2 hours time. Unfortunately my offsider will have to pull a really really long day. Why don't I just drive straight out to the rig? Well, I've not got my hard hat, boots, safety glasses, overalls etc etc....even if I did drive to the rig, I still couldn't work. And then I'd have to trust someone to bring my shit out in 2 days time. Not going to happen.

I wouldn't have minded being bumped off the flight and had to kill time in Adelaide, but this is rediculous.

At the Moomba airport, after just learning that I had to wait for the afternoon flight to go back to Adelaide and turn around again, we had a power failure. Yep, that's right kids, no power to refuel the plane. The plane will have to fly to Ballera and refuel there instead. Adds an extra hour or so to the whole waiting game.

Then I'm going to have to try to find the rig in the dark. Yeahar!!!!! I'm supposedly meant to go down a road that is marked on the map "Do not go down this road". Well, no problem. I'm all set then.

On another note. Had a wonderful week at home. (no, really, that's not sarcastic, I really did have a great time.....)

Got home tuesday, picked up dog, slept.

Wednesday, took dog to vet. Poor puppy got a grass seed (rather - two grass seeds) up his paws and had to have a general anasthetic to get the bastards out. He was pretty infected and not a happy puppy at all.
Took advantage of the dog less day to go to the movies.

Thursday - Australia day. BBQ lunch with mum, nanna and a couple of family friends.
We were very Australian and had lamb steaks. I didn't burn the food on the BBQ, and only had two glasses of champagne. In true traditional style I was bretholised by the cops on the way home. After almost stalling my car infront of my aged copper, I managed to find the straw and blow as though my life depended on it. Much to my surprise and suffering nerves, I blew nothing and was asked to "drive on Madame".

Friday - big dinner out with a friend. Linnen table cloths, very impressed. Five and a half bottles of our very fine South Australian Red Wine. Much dancing and laughter later, I was put in a cab.
I can remember throwing up twice on the way home. Not in the cab though, I was classy enough to shake the cabbies shoulder, and with one hand over my mouth, point towards the curb.
I can remember turning my piggy bank upside down and almost throwing $100 worth of two and one dollar coins at the poor old cabbie. Poor bastard! I'm still finding $1 coins all over the house.

That night I slept. The following day I vomited.....every five minutes. Saturday will forever be known as the hangover day from hell........I shall never forget.
Saturday night was also spent vomiting....every five minutes.

Sunday afternoon I was still feeling very very sorry for myself. I forced myself to clean the house cos Trippi's surrogate mum was coming over for lunch. I ended up taking her out to the pub cos I couldn't bear the sight of raw food.
That day was the first day I ate since friday. Hmmmnn........
After lunch and a catch up chat I had a Ranger meeting. I followed that up with "WOK IN A BOX". I have just discovered it. Needless to say my appetite returned after that.

Monday was run around day, buying new workboots, hard hat etc etc. I managed to pack my bag before 6pm. I'm damn impressed. Never done that before.

Also did heaps of other stuff as well, not to mention the movies movies movies......

Can't remember when, where, or what day,,,,,,,, but i did....

Narnia

Nanny McPhee (very very good, not usually into kids stuff but - Colin Firth....what can I say!)

Chicken Little (I had some time to kill before mums BBQ. Not usually into animated kids stuff either, but I've got to tell you, I had tears, tears rolling down my cheeks and my guts hurt from laughing so much. I won't go into my horror of seeing two coaches with about 100 kids get off and go into the theatre before me, but to all the people that think I'm a child hater from hell, these kids were really well behaved, properly supervised, and it actually made seeing a kids movie a joy, cos it had the right atmosphere. definitely added to the experience.

The Producers - damn shame it was such a piece of shit. Never thought I'd say this about a movie musical, but it was friggin embarrassing!!!!

Memoirs of a Geisha - just beautiful. Ignore the critics and just see it. Very true to the book.

And that's about it.

I'm still feeling a little sore in my head today, but, I can honestly tell you that I will never be drinking like that ever again!!!

Hi Peg,
Yeah, I did have a good time at home this hitch. I managed to fit in a whole lot. Next hitch I'm going to be a couch potatoe. I really do mean to blog at home, but it's rare that I have any time to do it, where when I'm at work I'm sitting in front of 3+ computers for 12 hours a day.
Hope you are keeping warm. My screensaver has a picture of a blizzard on it. I think that's about as close to snow I'm ever going to get this year. I think there were a few bushfires in Victoria, but not in South Australia yet. I worry about mum sometimes, cos she's in the hills, and her suburb got wiped out in the 1986 bushfires.
I'm trying to send you some of my excess heat. 48°C today, and no flies. The flies go into hiding when the temp gets above 47°c, cos they dry out!
Hangover is much better, still feel a little dehydrated. Will try the sports drinks "next time".
Feel free to keep the long comments coming. I love it.
